a hint of a spark

Today is Tuesday, the 17th of January 2012 and today is the first day I saw the faintest glow from the sun. After forty days of night I saw the slightest aura above the horizon. I almost peed myself with excitement. It may have been because I worked 15 hours today and its finally over, it may have been because I had ice cream for lunch instead of real food as a celebration but man, this day has been made. The tiniest spark of light peeking over the hills was enough to remind me that the sun was coming. Twilight.

I don't know if many people noticed, but after the plane took off I was outside in the -35 degree breeze, sitting in the snow bank, bundled up in my parka and drinking a hot chocolate while star gazing. Recently people have been so down and not wanting to do much. It is a constant soul search for positivity at this time of the year. Either way for me, it doesn't matter if the cup is half full or half empty there's still more room for hot chocolate!

In the dark, you re-think your life over and over, who you want to be, what you want to do, how you are going to accomplish all your goals, you miss your family, your friends, the light and the happiness and light heartiness that comes with the day. But the one thing I have learned here, is you truly find out who you are.

You are given the option to eat healthy food, be active, given the choice to stay in your room alone, to put yourself out there and meet people and to become a part of a small but wonderful community. All of it however is a choice you have to make for yourself. I am thankful to have such a wonderful support system back home with my family and friends. Thank you so much for keeping me positive and reminding me that even the smallest hint of a spark can start a fire.

Hopefully shedding some of this light on things will catch on soon can't wait to see it tomorrow.

  1. I am so pleased to see that you will at least get a teeny bit of sunshine soon! Also, I am almost done of your little care package. I hope to send it out this week. I am including a little game that hopefully will help perk up not only you but possibly also your fellow Alert residents?

  4. Hey babes, sorry I am so tired and having all these naps when you call but I truly don't mind waking me up. Today I didn't feel so good but I am ok now. Hey I cannot see you in the snow bank, please tell me where you are.
The kids got to see your site today so we are caught up, there is a few kids that understand, but some cannot grasp the reality of the situation but they do sit quietly and listen to Mr.M read to them. He thinks you are an awesome writer. I have a kid that I work with that is going to make PRMS sign with Mr. Coldwell and hoping to send it up to you so you can it nail up on one of the post and take a photo of you in front of it. The kids would think that is pretty cool. It would be nice if you me a hard copy, send it to me and I will probably frame it and hang it up in the school. What do you think of that? I can wait for you to see the sun, you probably will sure have a new outlook on it. Again your pics a wonderful and Mr. M was wondering what kind of cam you're using. Well I am going ot say good night, gotto get up and work.. Love you always. Mom xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxox

  8. But soft, what light above yonder mountain breaks?
It is the east, and Kristy is the sun.
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief
That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she.

Yeah I pilfered it from William.

    Miss and Love you.

  9. Hey Baby, know its been a rough day but hope you understand that the glimmer of light your photos show could never outshine you inner beauty. The smiles you talk about would radiate a light and warm glow that would be considered a threat to global warming. So the next time I hear someone talk about the ice melting in the north I will know that it was your heart/soul that melted it. As we have discussed never let anyone bring you down and keep the smiles coming because they warm our hearts even though your thousands of miles away. The sun will have to do battle with your glow to reclaim the North from its new beauty. Love you Dad

  10. Kristy, You have survived through what would have caused many to suffer seasonal affective disorder and come out of such a dark period all the stronger.
